Футбол (football) is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score by getting a ball into the opposing team’s goal. The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. The primary means of moving the ball is by kicking it, although players may use any part of their body except their arms and hands; only the goalkeeper is permitted to handle the ball within the penalty area.

Football is widely regarded as the world’s most popular sport, with a global following and professional leagues in many countries. It is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) internationally, which organises tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup.
